JPO offers sympathetic plan to tide over recession:Examination Fee Deferment Program

In a vigorous and compassionate attempt to help ease the financial strain of corporations and individuals filing a request for examination in the face of the recent sudden economic downturn, the JPO offers an emergency relief program that defers the payment of examination fee.

This temporary program, under which the payment of an examination fee is deferred for ONE YEAR from the date of filing a request for examination, takes effect on April 1, 2009.  The JPO expects to keep the program going for two years.

The deferment benefit is available to all patent applicants who file a request for examination for their own applications.

This privilege is unavailable and the normal payment is required if the applicant files for an accelerated examination request.

Nakamura’s press conference is expected on March 31, 2009.
